OP Program Goals and Objectives

As a substance abuse counseling center, Positive Recovery Services provides treatment for individuals with life problems arising from the use of alcohol or other substances. Clinical attention is used to address these issues and give individuals the skills they need to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Various areas of the client’s life are assessed; including alcohol and other drug use, physical and mental health, financial issues, legal issues, social environment, trauma, cultural issues, and educational/vocational needs. Individual treatment plans are developed between the client and their counselor in order to address their identified problems. When the client is able to enjoy healthy functioning in these areas, the issue of relapse prevention is discussed to prevent a return to behaviors which may interfere with ongoing recovery.

Duration of treatment is dependent upon the client’s stated goals and progress toward those goals and is continually assessed between the client and the counselor. It is the intent of Positive Recovery Services to provide supportive services to help each individual reach their goals.

In order to help clients, achieve their goals, the following measurable program objectives are pursued:

1. The identification of any life problems suffered by a client as a result of their substance use. During the intake process a counselor will complete a biopsychosocial assessment with a client. This provides a starting point in identification of any problems the client may be experiencing in the areas of alcohol and other drug use, physical/ mental health, employment, legal issues, vocational needs, and family or environmental conditions.

2. Development of a treatment plan to address the identified problems. Individualized treatment plans are developed to address the client’s identified problems, with specific goals and measurable objectives and strategies to address each goal, The initial treatment plan is based upon the initial assessment, with changes made when the plan is reviewed. Treatment plans are reviewed and progress toward goals is measured monthly for persons in IOP and quarterly for persons in OP. Successful completion is individually determined for each client and based upon achievement of goals related to substance use disorder as measured by urinalysis results, attendance and participation in therapy.

3. Ongoing assessment. New issues are added to a treatment plan and are addressed as they arise. Resources a client might need that are not a part of our program are identified and referrals to appropriate providers or services are facilitated.

4. Development of skills for relapse prevention and healthy living are stressed in order to assist clients in maintaining recovery. Identification and evaluation of problematic behaviors are a focus of recovery, and counselors employ evidence based strategies to teach clients coping skills and new behaviors.

5. Identification of needs for aftercare supports. Information and referral are given to clients as indicated to access community support groups, medical care, mental health counseling, legal or social services.
